With the world demand for coal on the rise, Reading Anthracite Company has made significant equipment additions over the last several years. In 2006, Reading Anthracite Company has purchased a new Caterpillar D11R Track Type Tractor Dozer. In March 2008, Reading Anthracite Company has purchased a 2002 Komatsu PC4000 Super Shovel. The operating weight of the shovel is 838,000-870,000 pounds (380-395 tons) with a shovel capacity of 29 cubic yards. The components of this Super Shovel required twelve truckloads to transport. The Super Shovel was assembled in two weeks. Also acquired in 2008 were three Caterpillar 785 Haul Trucks. Each truck was delivered and then erected. Each Caterpillar truck holds 150 tons of coal and can be loaded with four shovel loads. Reading Anthracite Company's purchase of additional capital equipment demonstrates the company's commitment to the primary mission of mining coal as well as the understanding of its' place as a leader to supply the world coal demand. |
