On Wednesday, August 20, 2008, the Schuylkill County Commissioners announced that they plan on approving a PPL plan that appears to give coal a permanent home in Schuylkill County government. "Coal stays", Commissioner Chairwoman Mantura M. Gallagher said after Wednesday's Commissioners meeting as reported by Ben Wolfgang, staff writer for the Republican Herald newspaper. The PPL plan, including the price of installation at $2,628,582 will call for four new boilers--two that burn natural gas and two that burn coal, according to PPL documents made available to the public on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. The system would allow coal or gas to be used, depending on which is cheaper and how much heat is needed at the time. The meeting also announced the withdrawal of two previously submitted Honeywell proposals without company comment. Mr. Brian R. Rich, President, Reading Anthracite Company, had already issued two public statements on May 2, 2008 and June 13, 2008. Those public statements can be viewed as attachments to the "Reading Anthracite Company Leads Campaign to keep Coal in Schuylkill County Government Facilities" article, also in "WHAT'S NEW" on our web site. |
